I don't know how I missed the fact that Oral Roberts died last week. I mostly know the televangelist from the controversy that occurred in 1987 when Roberts revealed that Jesus was holding him for ransom. During a fundraising drive, he stated that if he didn't raise $8 million by March, God would "call him home." People laughed, but Roberts raised the money and didn't die, thereby proving that he was right.

James Cameron’s AVATAR is in theaters today. What about this movie interests you the most?
Sponsored by AVATAR. In theaters December 18. Buy tickets now.
Before I say anything else, if you haven't watched this movie YOU HAVE TO! It's really nice. It's a bit long (not as long as the LOTR movies) though, but I swear the story is nice.
Okay so I gotta admit that when I bought tickets to see this film, I thought it was for Avatar: The Last Air Bender. All that registered to me was "Avatar". I was too excited to wonder why the poster did not show Aang. LOL. When the movie began, I was so confused about why there were mentions of cryogenic states, other planets... WTH?! I was afraid the movie was gonna be bad because I did not know what it was about! I really thought I was going to watch Aang and Katara and the other peeps from the Nickelodeon show.
What I liked about the movie was the sci-fi part of it, and the love story. I was totally hooked on the story. The effects were also outstanding. I actually want to watch this again.
Update to my earlier post about the Anti-Homosexuality Bill being considered in Uganda.
I'm a big Neil Gaiman fan, and this book didn't disappoint. Gaiman has a great way of creating an entire universe from whole cloth and making it seem totally natural, and The Graveyard Book is a great example of that.
And it's a good thing the child (named "Nobody" by the inhabitants of the graveyard) has been so well educated, because the assassin isn't giving up.
What's your favorite thing about the holidays? Least favorite?
I LOVE THE LIGHTS AND THE DECOR! It gives me a happy feeling whenever I pass by houses and buildings all lit up in the evening. I also love how cooler it is during this time of the year.
Least favorite has got to be the crowd in the malls. Then again in the PI malls are normally crowded no matter what time of the year.
It's old news now that the Ugandan Parliament is considering a bill (called the 2009 Anti-Homosexuality Bill) that would impose prison time for people found to be homosexuals, prison time for anyone who knows a homosexual and doesn't report them, and death for repeat offenders and homosexuals who are HIV-positive. The Parliamentarian who introduced it, David Bahati, has been associated by some with The Family, the semi-secret (recently not so secret) fundamentalist Christian group that interferes in politics in the U.S. and abroad.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Keeping with Thanksgiving tradition, President Obama will today - as every President has done since (possibly) as early as Truman - publicly pardon a Thanksgiving turkey.
From The Week: "An American living in Israel has been charged with a string of terror attacks against Arab, gay, and leftist targets." Jack Teitel, 37, has confessed to numerous attacks "saying he was acting on direct orders from God."
